I did finally get it to work by resetting to a past time on the computer, but then Windows immediately did an update, and messed it up again.

Tried the repair option and it says repair completed Incompatible program. Have restarted but still getting same message and am sick as a chip. Can anyone help? Additional info: IE seems to be having a nervous breakdown – needs to close, looking for a solution, send report, repeat ad nauseum.

When I tried to uninstall Starter I got an error message from Click to run application manager. Should I uninstall this first?

In reply to Puddled 2 ‘s post on April 25, I did a system restore to before the Windows update and all was well again. There has been another Windows update overnight and Word has survived this one. I’m positive the Windows update caused the problem. Can files be corrupted in transit, problem with internet connection or something?

I am having no luck with system restore either, even after disabling my antivirus program. Any other suggestions? Guruprasad Ra.

I’m not sure if this is related, but I now notice that I have a “Microsoft Office Click-To-Run Protected Q :” now listed as a hard drive on my computer, which I had never noticed before. When I try to ininstall the program without the appwiz command, I get an error of “The action cannot be completed.

Try the action again. If the problem continues, contact Microsoft Product Support. Following the step by step information, I still get the error “The action cannot be completed. As it says above, microsoft office word starter 2010 cannot be opened free, following installation of a system update, I cannot now open any of my documents. When I try to do this on “recent files” or my documents folder, a message in a panel flashes up saying that Microsoft Word Starter cannot be opened. I can’t work out how to repair this – as the message instructs – via the Control Panel, and my online discussion with the Microsoft “helpline” has got me nowhere.

If others have experienced this problem and microsoft office word starter 2010 cannot be opened free any suggestions to resolve it, I’d be very grateful. This thread is locked.
