I used to be able to share a folder with someone that does not have a Microsoft account and the entire folder could be downloaded by that person.
Now, when I share a folder with multiple files in it, they cannot download the entire folder without signing in to Microsoft onedrive, hotmail, etc. They can download an individual file without signing in, but they cannot download the entire folder at one time. In the past, the entire folder would download as a zip file. The same thing happens if you go into the folder and select all of the individual files to download at one time – a sign in box pops up and you can’t go any further unless you sign in or deselect all but one file.
Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Do I have a setting somewhere that is blocking this functionality? Or has Microsoft changed the way sharing happens with onedrive? My workaround was to use Google Drive. I don’t have problems sharing there. I discovered this issue originally because I was testing this share function before I sent it to people that are not experienced with OneDrive and do not have a OneDrive account, nor do they want one. I tested, even though I haven’t had problems in the past because I recognize that things change and it had been several months since I shared anything. With OneDrive, I have tried a variety of different things and I will try to summarize them here.
At first, I had not unchecked the “Allow Editing” function but I eventually found the article that was listed in your reply and did indeed set the link with that box unchecked. I tried both copying the link and pasting it into an email and also sending the link to an email address. I used my Yahoo and Gmail accounts to receive those links so there would not be a conflict between Outlook and my attempts to share.
I used my Hotmail account to send the links, or simply sent the link via the share function on OneDrive. I sent the emails and links using the Safari browser and opened them in the Edge browser, again trying to eliminate potential conflicts. Nothing was working. So, I decided to start from scratch. I deleted all share links that I had created. I even rebooted my internet modem and wifi router. In addition to using the original folders I was trying to share with previous share links deleted , I also set up entirely new folders to share.
After trying several different downloads – I attempted to download single files, a group of files and also the entire folder – I come to a possible conclusion that there is a size limitation that dictates whether there is a requirement to sign into a OneDrive account.
