By the way: there is a possibility to repair an Acr installation Desperate last resort. I did install the update and that seems to have cured the problem. Leave it up to Billy to mess things up. After trying all sorts of other things, the update worked for me. The app stayed open just long enough for me to click the update link.

It worked for a while. Never had trouble on the older machine. Thanks to the suggestions in this thread 1 installing the updater; 2 turning off the Internet connection; and finally 3 running in compatibility mode, it is now working again. Just glad it is working for now. Had the same problem with a new harddrive with Windows 10, but my copy of acrobat 10 pro stayed open for about 15 seconds before crashing. I found it was just enough time to rush to Help, Check for Updates. It found the update just before the program crashed, but by then the download had started. It continued to download and then install.

And my Acrobat 10 Pro is now working just fine, even allowing me to reinstall a Java Script file to flatten the pdf after adding images, etc.

You don’t need to open Acrobat to install the updates. They are all available on Adobe’s FTP site, which I linked to above however, you can no longer open this link in most browsers, and will need to use a dedicated FTP client for that.

I’m sure you are absolutely correct. I know next to nothing about computers, and have no idea how I would go about using a dedicated FTP client to download the updates when I tried the link for the update, I simply got a new blank screen.
