Graphics: I can’t comment on the graphics because the game crashed on me when I went to change the settings.

I assume if you have a PC with a dedicated GPU you’ll be able to change the graphical settings no problem. That being said, the entire game was playable on the default settings, so if you PC’s specs match mine, don’t worry about completing the game. Sound: All of the guns sound great, the acting is great, and the soundtrack is fantastic. No complaints here; its got fantastic audio! As stated above, there aren’t any driving or on-rails sections in this version, so the entire game is FPS, with some third-person “actions” such as climbing across wires to get across gaps or scaling the villain’s Japanese corporate building.

These sections are a short and are used to get across to get around the levels, but its better that they have them to give the levels a little more life and depth. You’ll use a combination of action and stealth, which are both handled extraordinarily well!

The shooting is fun and never gets tiring, the sections that need you to be stealthy require you to really use your skills not the level of Splinter Cell, but still great. The controls are excellent as well, allowing you to easily execute the actiony and stealthy sections. Getting that perfect headshot on an unexpected enemy is as satisfying as it was in Goldeneye for the N64!

Like every other Bond game on console or PC, Nightfire PC has sections that combine the stealth and action, where if the enemies aren’t aware of your presence, you can silently take them out to progress, but if you get caught you won’t be penalized.

There are two missions that require stealth, but as mentioned above, they’re excellent, and after the stealthier sections, you get more action. The game also has great pacing; giving you medium to smaller and then to bigger locations, so that you don’t feel like you’re playing similar stages.

Verdict: Is it better than the console version? On a technical level, no. The console version has the different gameplay modes and a fantastically customizable multiplayer mode! Plus the cutscenes are better. When it comes to length and pacing, the console version plays out more like a film, oging from the different gameplay modes, and the sections are each quite short, making it feel more like a Brosnan era Bond film with the action and brisk location and plot moving.

On PC, Nightfire feels more like a successor to Goldeneye, where the game relies more on bigger level design with more room for the player to decide how they want to tackle an objective. I think that’t the reason I love this version so much more.

The console version has better replayability though, with the extra unlocks and such, while the PC version just has the three extra difficulty levels. Length isn’t a big deal for me personally, but I know tons of players do take that into account. First time playing on console will probably take you at most 5 hours, while the PC version around Sticking to the PC version, though, there are 8 slots for bots and up to 32 player matches.

I know there is a dedicated fanbase and there are ways to player Nightfire today with others, but I couldn’t find anyone atm. If you want the technically better, more variety and cinematic-driven game, the console version will be perfect for you! For hardcore fans, I’d recommend this version even if you’ve played the console one and vice-versa. The graphics are outdated, but it has an original storyline, gadgets, multiple ways to win and some surprises along the way. There is a “Bond” way to do things; bonuses for using non-lethal tactics; and you can choose between the blast-your-way-past or stealth most of the time.

Some missions are purely about stealth and others purely about action, but there is usually ways to go into a mission and the strategy is different every time.
