It was released in May City Life allows players to zoom in and see every little bit of detail. The placement method allows buildings to be placed at an angle, as also seen in Sierra Games ‘ Caesar IV. More recently, the game has been criticized for lack of many detailed elements, such as weather, disasters, and more “in depth” user control.

City Life continues the very long tradition of city-building and construction and management games that was originally started by Utopia from developer Don Daglow and Will Wright ‘s SimCity series by allowing the player to customize their urban city’s roads, buildings, finances, ordinances and much more.

City Life utilizes a three dimensional game engine in displaying cities, and also includes the requirement to satisfy six different socioeconomic groups within the city, an essential part of gameplay.

The game classifies city residents into six socioeconomic classes, which are depicted in a circle. Each class can tolerate the two adjacent to it, but is hostile towards the three across the circle. Further, the income generated by businesses focusing on each class is indicated by its height on the circle, Have-Nots generating the least and Elites generating the most.

Lastly, the left side of the circle favors education while the right side favors safety e. The higher classes are of course more demanding. The Suits must be attracted by having good conditions for the Blue Collars, the Radical Chics are attracted by good conditions for the Fringes, and the Elites are attracted by good conditions for both the Suits and the Radical Chics. Due to the literal class warfare, if classes that dislike each other live near each other, they will start riots and make complaints.

Much of the gameplay focuses on arranging a city so that this will not occur. Every business will employ a specific mix of classes; the earlier, less profitable buildings may employ only one class, e.

Thus, a successful city must manage a population of each of the classes. As their name implies, the Elites are the most powerful and wealthiest segment of the population. However, they are also the most demanding of the six, requiring quality services in sectors like education, safety, leisure, and environment. Elites are usually attracted to a city by “evolving” from either the Radical Chic or Suit groups.

Most of their employment will derive from jobs in the private industry i. They are, by far, the most lucrative socialculture of the six. The Radical Chics are ranked among the higher income groups and are as lucrative as the Suits.

They are very close to the artistic and creative world and have liberal views and dispositions. Employment for Radical Chics derive from jobs in designing i. Radical Chics get attracted to a city by “evolving” from Fringes. This group favors services in education and retail. The Suits are a wealthy community whom conduct business transactions within industries. Suits are attracted to a city by “evolving” from Blue Collars. They demand quality services in safety and healthcare among others. Their employment will derive from jobs in financial advising, auditing, accounting, and stock trading. The Fringes are artists who have low incomes slightly lower than that of Blue Collars and are usually fans of cultural activities. They also lean towards liberal views of the world.

Fringes are naturally attracted to any city with available housing, though under certain circumstances, they will “evolve” from Have-Nots. They demand good retail services and adequate educational services. Employment for the Fringes derives primarily from clothing workshops, wood companies, and paranormal activities i. The Blue Collars work in the manufacturing and “dirty” energy industries of the city and have revenues close to that of the Fringes they are slightly more lucrative, but their workplaces generate more pollution They represent working class families with traditional values.

Blue Collars will usually be attracted to a city with available housing, but under certain circumstances will “evolve” from Have-Nots. They demand good services for healthcare and decent services for safety. The Have-Not community is the working poor, who are too focused on meeting the most basic needs to concern themselves with the clashing values of the Fringes and Blue Collars.

They all hate each other, but thanks to good parenting and the fear of reprisals they’re not running around kicking each other in the face and nuts. This is peace -humanity in balance.

Monte Cristo has brought cultural disharmony to the world of town planning with City Life -introducing six distinct cultures for you to deal with, from the Hilton-esque ‘elites’, scoffing wrens’ egg omelettes off ruby platters, to the ‘have-nots’, who are forced to lick whatever nutrients they can from each other’s mucky bodies.

It’s your job in City Life on top of the usual sim-planning, schooling and the provision of swimming pooling to keep these six cultures in check. The blue collar workers don’t think much of the artsy fringe types, so you’re encouraged not to build mechanics’ shops next to mime artist refuges, unless you want your meticulously planned streets running thick with blood and face paint.

It’s all set in real-time 3D, and as you’d expect, you can descend like a clawless god-eagle to watch your wee folk hugging or arguing to the same sort of extent we’ve seen recently in competent stuff like Tycoon City: New York. It’s all pleasantly distracting, although when a game appears in which you can pinch someone’s arse in a bus queue and blame it on a bald man, fax us.

It’s a brave conker that’ll take on the heritage of Maxis’ year-old oak tree, but it’s also been a good two years since the SimCity 4: Rush Hour expansion gave everyone the chance to flood a hospital.

Come April, City Life might just slot into the mayor-shaped hole in your heart. Browse games Game Portals. City Life. Install Game.

City life pc game

City building games have always been a personal favourite of mine. Whilst there have been many more city building games in the past not all have been enjoyable and whenever a new one comes along, you are wise to be a little sceptical about it. The game offers a Scenario Mode and a Free Mode. The Scenario Mode offers 22 scenarios on five different region types. The Free Mode is a sandbox mode where you can tinker away without the scenarios limitations.

City Life asks you to deal with the concept of subcultures. The game has six subcultures Elites, Radical Chics, Suits, Fringes, Blue Collars and Have Nots and you must take these into account with virtually every decision you make in the game.

Each of the groups has their own special buildings. For instance there are Fringe businesses and Blue Collar leisure facilities. You also have to consider that each subculture has a fixed disposition to the other subcultures. The manual suggests you organize your city into neighbourhoods and this actually seems the best way to go about things. Thankfully you can call in SWAT teams if things get too out of hand but in most cases you can avoid problems with careful planning. As we said earlier there are some similarities to the Sim City games.

The interface layout is very reminiscent of the one found in Sim City 4. Despite the similarities there are some key differences. The Scenario Mode provides more focused play than the Sim City games have to date. However, I do have a few issues with the game. Yes, there some text tutorial messages and the game does come with a quick start booklet that points out what steps to take when building your first city the manual is pretty impressive too in bringing you up to speed with the game but in this day and age a proper interactive tutorial is called for.

The game comes with an editor which allows you to create your own landscapes. I would have also liked an undo button to take back the last building placement. City Life certainly looks good for a city builder. Anyone who has played Sim City 4 will have moaned about the general performance of the game engine.

As soon as your city begins to grow significantly, the game became a system hog. City Life seems to have no such problems and even when your city grows quite large the performance seems to remain the same, which is a definite plus. All of the information in the game is displayed visually either via text or icons. The tutorial messages are all in text. The report screen on the lower right hand side of the screen alerts you to all of the incidents.

You can also choose to have the report screen display all recent notifications, which is rather handy. As we mentioned earlier the game manual has been well written and should answer any questions you might have about the game. Far from being the Sim City clone it may initially appear to be, City Life is a deep and challenging city builder that fans of this niche genre will enjoy.

The concept of having to provide for and maintain harmony between the six subcultures really makes the game an original experience and despite the many similarities to Sim City 4 the game never actually feels like a simple clone. Being able to zoom right down to street level and witness what your inhabitants are doing does actually add something to the whole experience. Overall Game Rating: 8. Deaf Gamers Classification :. Click the letter or here for details. City Life has to be one of the biggest surprises of Far from being simply a Sim City clone, City Life has an original feel to it and is surprisingly enjoyable.

How does it look? How deaf gamer friendly is the game? Final thoughts. DG Only.

Monte Cristo’s effort -as well as offering all the real estate construction and stat management present in Maxis’s effort – throws an important twist into the city sim cocktail.

In City Life, citizens fall in to one of six social classes, ranging from gas-pumping blue collars to limousine-cruising suits. Sadly, chavs aren’t available in the retail game, although we’re sure someone’s already working on the mod. This feature puts a large twist on the tired SimCity formula, and kept us amused in what would otherwise be a fairly by-the-numbers sim game. Zoning neighbourhoods becomes essential to creating a successful city, while catering for their different needs is also crucial.

For example, blue collars infinitely prefer a country bar to a family restaurant found in a fringe neighbourhood, and vice-versa. Sadly, City Life’s triumphs end after a few hefty play sessions. Each class can tolerate the two adjacent to it, but is hostile towards the three across the circle. Further, the income generated by businesses focusing on each class is indicated by its height on the circle, Have-Nots generating the least and Elites generating the most. The higher classes are of course more demanding. The Suits must be attracted by having good conditions for the Blue Collars, the Radical Chics are attracted by good conditions for the Fringes, and the Elites are attracted by good conditions for both the Suits and the Radical Chics.
