Buy Capture One Pro – Frequently asked questions

The download says: “Thank you for downloading the free day trial of Capture One Pro 9” despite the heading on the website before clicking says Capture One Express for Sony prior to installation.

I ask, because I do not want to overwrite my Version 8 Express which is free, not trial, but does not have pro features with Version 9, which appears to be a”pro ” version from the outset and stops after 30 days.

From what I see, it does not seem to extend the option to retain the Express only Version of 9 after 30 days. I will probably pay the upgrade price to pro for Sony anyway after 30 days, but would like to be assured that I can revert to Express 8 or Express 9 if I don’t feel that the pro version suits. I checked the forum and website but could not find any specific details. Hope the way I have explained this, makes some sense.

That is the Pro version, which is well worth the money IMO! Express Sony is free, but it sounds like you chose the Pro 9 trial on the start.

Google “Capture One Pro vs Lightroom” and you will see, and most of those are the Capture One 8 Pro Which is what I am currently using, and on the 9 trial at the moment , and 9 is quite improved. Once you upgrade an image to the 9 image it cannot be reverted and will no longer work properly if you choose to go back to 8 and you will have to reset all adjustments on it. I am loving 9 and will buy it as soon as my trial is over!

I would not download direct from Capture One. If you go to the support for your particular camera on Sony’s own site, you will scroll down until you see the link for the free version of Capture One V9. Download this and you will now have the Sony only free version of the latest Capture One. You can then use it as you did V8, only upgrading to Pro if and when you want to. Edit to say that you will get the full C1 pro trial for the first month, it will then revert to the Sony only free version after that, just as the V8 did when upgrading from, say, V8 1.

I’m afraid I can’t answer on the precise question, but I have just moved from aperture to Capture one pro 9 Sony version and have to say it’s very impressive tool at a fantastic price for us Sony users.

Pete I’m not sure how you managed that! Easy fix though and that alone is reason enough for my upgrade now my desktop and laptop can have Pro. It will ask to convert the images, but it will corrupt your catalog.

I belive its not actually intended, at least that is the word on their form and from support, but they are encouraging people to back up all files BEFORE doing anything at all if you have any inclination of not upgrading.

I am in no way shape or form affiliated with them, I just really love their product Phase One. Just checked my account, 9 only has two seats but 8 also had two seats, have been running 8 pro on two machines since late , the support from the users is also great, love this product.
