Loved this game and was so sad when I had played 30 seasons and I couldn’t go any farther. Season 31 would have been interesting as my defensive line was going to need an overhaul. All three of my defensive tackle’s were 37 years old and suspect I was going to lose all three to retirement, and my overall 1 draft choice at right defensive end had become a bust after his first year and I was going to have to get rid of him for probably a much lower draft pick.
My only complaint about this game is that most of the teams stayed pretty much in terms of how good or bad they were in the 30 season run.
And teams like the Raiders, Texans, Giants, Lions, and 49ers never made it out of last in their divisions the whole 30 seasons, whereas teams like the Eagles, Patriots, and Bengals always won their’s. There were a few teams that did vary over the play time; Chargers and Colts were tough to beat for about 15 seasons then they just turned into ok opponents.
Teams like Cardinals, Ravens, and Jags would be good one year, then bad, then good again. Sure wish they’d still make a PC version of the newer ones. It’s too bad there wasn’t some kind of update to this one so we could have kept it going.

In ’06 I could simply run up the scores with my star on the team, giving him high marks and skills, and even getting him on the Madden cover eventually. I’m not sure I’ll be able to do that on ‘ The superstar also has a few new skills to show off at the combines before he is drafted, so that’s been fun to learn. Franchise mode is not much different as far as I can tell. However, as others have mentioned, the players on good teams get very good way too fast.
Don’t choose menu speedup, my visuals went crazy. But with my settings, I took to the gridiron with my 49ers. Most other players, however, were pretty off the mark, so just be prepared in case you don’t get a roster update. It’s not a big deal though, I was just craving some football. My Play Now option yielded a match-up between the Rams and Niners. Graphics look decent if everything’s on high.
I really enjoyed playing and only made a few mistakes, to lose A long time Madden gamer, I found it to be fun, and discovered the extensive controller settings it’s going to take hours to master that will be necessary to have more fun.
There was one weird glitch where the opponent ran down the play clock when the game clock had been stopped. That was unnecessary.
But other than that, gameplay was pretty smooth. Overall, I found that I could connect with my receivers without much issue, run with some issue, defend okay it has a lot to do with play calling, but honestly the AI kinda ruins a good play call if you don’t know special defensive moves like swat and jump off the top of your head.
Special teams was fine, ran a kick back for a TD. I’d say if you’re craving a PC Madden experience, buy this game. I came to the party late, very late. Well, ordered it, DL’ed, and was playing with the 08′ roster. Not exactly a lot of fun. After that, found the Football Freaks roster over at Football Idiot forums, and found a wealth of rosters and mods for this software. Grabbed the latest FF roster for 12′ players and I was back in business. This was a very fun game, sad to see that the diehards have to resort to bandaging an 08′ produced program to enjoy football on a PC.
Get this until someone brings back a football game to the PC. A shout out to Football Idiot dot com, which has forums whose members are still helping us in the PC platform enjoy football. A big thanks to every member for keeping this game as current as can be. I greatly appreciate what they are doing, despite not being paid to provide the updates and mods and also facing the few ungrateful postings that nitpick on some of their updates from time to time.
There are still mods being added to the game and most importantly, there are roster updates. Remember, this game can be played with an Xbox Controller for PC. See comments for further info. You can download so many awesome mods that immensely improve the game play. The download works perfectly on my 64 bit windows 7 computer with no hitches. I did use the amazon downloader which I think is a no brainer. This is a must have for Football fans to have until EA hopefully decides to get back on the PC market.
Those of you with Windows 7 on wondering about this game should not hesitate on this purchase. One more thing. For those that may say the graphics are dated that is such a stupid comment since its considered a damn old game, you should buy this game to add to your collection and maybe to mod the hell out of it and not to expect graphics.

Franchise mode, in particular, is more fleshed out in this version than today’s. Works on Windows 8 with a little bit of manipulating. PROS: Cheap. Active community of support online. Plenty of mods out there to bring it up to date. Features remain in this version that have been removed in the more-current versions.
Tons of fun. CONS: Graphics are slightly less advanced than today’s. Verdict: totally worth it. I downloaded the file in about 40 minutes. It extracted itself and installed flawlessly.
