Some schools have a special “site license” with MS that allows them to give their students a “free” copy of Office under the “Office Education” or “Office Student Advantage” programs.

Ask you school’s ID department to look into it for you. If the message you receive after a failed attempt is one of the first two — keep checking every week. If you have additional questions you can post them in the Office Applications forum.

The software giant on Tuesday announced a new program called Student Advantage, whereby students worldwide can sign up for subscriptions to Office ProPlus through their institutions at no cost to themselves.
