Logic Pro creates a new file for the joined audio called a mixdown that replaces the original regions. The new audio file is stored on your hard disk and is added to the Project Audio Browser.

In Logic Pro, select the regions you want to join on each track by Shift-clicking, dragging, or using Command-A. The selected regions on each track are joined into a single region on that track.

MIDI regions must be on the same track or on adjacent tracks. When you join MIDI regions, the joined region takes the name and track of the first original region. If the Transposition, Velocity, and Dynamics region parameters differ in any of the selected regions, they are normalized before being joined.

The parameters of the joined MIDI region are all set to neutral [default] values. If several mono or stereo regions on the same track are from the same original region, and in the same relative positions, no mixdown occurs. In this case, a single region is created. No mixdown occurs when you join two regions on tracks that are panned to opposite sides, as the two resulting mixdown files would be identical to the original audio files in the areas used for the regions.

If several overlapping audio regions on a track are selected, no mixdown occurs. Only one audio region at a time can be played on each track. When two audio regions on the same track overlap, only the later right region is heard. Set the drag mode for the Tracks area In Logic Pro, choose one of the following modes from the Drag pop-up menu in the Tracks area menu bar: Overlap: Preserves the current region borders when you drag one region over another. X-Fade: When two audio regions overlap, the overlapped area is crossfaded.

Shuffle R: Aligns regions when you move, resize, or delete them, in the following ways: Move: Moving a region to the right aligns the end point of the region with the start point of the region that follows, so there is no space gap between them. If you want to work with me, for instance, you can send me your Logic Pro session, and I can take your song where you left off.

But you have to do a little homework first. Under the ‘File’ menu, you can find the ‘Project Alternatives’ section. You can save your projects as alternatives for things like you want to experiment a little bit, but you don’t want to ruin your original version.

Today we will use it for backup. You don’t want to lose your original file while you’re preparing it for your mixing engineer. Just click on ‘New Alternative’ and name it.

Now your song is saf. I can’t tell how many times I received a project with so many muted and empty tracks. This problem seems harmless but generates an unnecessary conversation for both sides. So please get rid of them first. Check if there any clicks and pops in your tracks. Clean silences on your recordings.

Use fade in and fade out at the beginning and the end of a region. Select all your regions to do this quickly. Put fade in and fade out to all of them at once in the ‘Inspector’ menu. First of all, merge your compilation tracks. Click on the small number above a compilation track and click ‘Flatten and Merge.
